Cartersville Country Club originally opened its nine hole golf course in April of 1954. The Charter Golf Course Committee designed the layout, and a membership of eighty-three joined the effort to physically build it. Nearly seventeen years later, the club broke ground adding an additional nine holes, making Cartersville Country Club an eighteen hole golf course. A unique feature of our golf course is the front nine holes surround the perimeter of the country club property, and the back nine are clustered inside the front nine. This enables the late evening golfer to play two, three, four or five holes and wind up right back at the clubhouse.
In 1996, the club initiated a complete Bunker renovation for the entire course, as well as, an addition to the practice facility. In 1999, the club constructed a covered teaching facility that offers a sophisticated, computerized, video swing analyzer, as well as, custom club fitting. Our teaching facility is equipped with two video cameras and a screen splitter, which allows for higher quality golf instruction.
In late 2001, the club’s Board of Directors approved a complete renovation of the golf course. All eighteen greens were completely reconstructed, a state-of-the-art irrigation system was installed, the concrete cart paths were repaved, and the length of the golf course was expanded to almost seven thousand yards. Thirteen back tees were added, and the lake, as part of the irrigation system, was expanded from two to five acres. In August 2002, the course re-opened with its new look.
In addition to the eighteen hole golf course, Cartersville Country Club has a premiere practice facility which includes an 8,000 square foot putting green, three 10,000 square foot practice tees, and a 1,000 square foot chipping green coupled with two sand bunkers.
For over fifty years, Cartersville Country Club members have enjoyed the challenge of this extraordinary, Par 72 Championship golf course. We believe we have the finest collection of greens in all of Northwest Georgia.

The forty-ninth annual Cartersville Invitational marks the continuation of one of the most popular golf outings in north Georgia. It has always been held with two purposes in mind; first, an enjoyable social outing for our guests; and second, to have a fine field of amatuer golfers sprinkled with middle and high handicappers to add flavor to the tournament.
The first invitational was won by a neighboring Roman and former Boston Red Sox outfielder, Leon Culberson, with Jack Brandy of Dalton finishing second.
Through the years, other fine amatuers have won the tournament, including Charlie Harrison, former Southern Amatuer Champion and Georgia State Amatuer Champion; and Gene Dahlbender, five times winner of the Dogwood. In 1971 it was won by Bo Trotter, Georgia State Amatuer Champion. Cartersville Country Club's own Paul Gurley has won the tournament five times; and who can forget Elliot Phillips, Indiana State Amatuer Champion,, finishing with four straight birdies to come from behind and win in 1973 or Richard Tatum's beautiful 33 on the last nine in the mud to break out of a three-way tie with the Cook brothers in 1975.
Cartersville's very own Jonathan Shaw holds the tournament record with a score of 134 in our 2006 edition.
